Easy Like Sunday Morning

If it feels good, safe, and right for you this morning, I encourage you to pause—a real, deep pause that asks nothing of you except to breathe and be here.

Let this Sunday morning be a gentle invitation to slow down, to settle into a rhythm of ease, and to take a “somatic pause”—a moment to listen to your body in the present, even as the world rushes on around us.

Hit play on this Sunday song, and let’s take this pause together.

As the music plays, give yourself a few long, slow breaths. Notice how the song settles in and on your body. Notice if you're able to let go (whatever that means to you) just a bit with each note.

In a world that’s always urging us to keep up—to do more, be more, accomplish more—the body has its own wisdom. This wisdom shows up when we pause long enough to listen. In dance/movement therapy, this pause is a full-body permission slip to release the weight of what we carry, to breathe more deeply, and to feel what we may not let ourselves feel in the busyness of our lives.

This pause becomes especially meaningful in times of stress and uncertainty, when the world outside feels too fast and too heavy.

It’s a reminder that we don’t have to move at the speed of capitalism, colonialism, or endless demands. We have the power to reclaim our own pace.

Take a moment here.

Feel your body supported, the gentle rise and fall of your breath, and the softness that can come with each and every exhale.

Notice if you can let your shoulders relax—feeling any tension slide down and out through your fingertips.

As you breathe and soften (maybe), remind yourself that your worth isn’t tied to what you produce, solve, or finish today.

Let this pause be your body’s quiet act of resistance, a small but meaningful moment of reclaiming your time and your body.

What does ease look like for you today?

What small things can you do each day to help you feel rooted, calm, or connected?

As we move into another week, I encourage you to come back to this “somatic pause” whenever you need it. Whether it’s over morning coffee, on a walk, or in a quiet moment between tasks, let yourself be “easy like Sunday morning,” if only for a few breaths.

Wishing you a day that feels gentle, easy, and rooted in all the ways you need.

Hey Friend, "Unprecedented times" feel like precedented times, don't you think? For so long, it’s been Black women at the forefront—rising to meet crises, holding communities together, calling for justice, all while carrying a weight we never asked to bear. And now, once again, the world asks us to step forward, to be strong, to endure. But after all we’ve been through, it’s no wonder that cape of strength we wear has started to feel heavy. Worn like a second skin, this cape—woven from forced...
